SEATTLE — Ray Bourque scored with 1:43 remaining in the third period, lifting the Boston Tea Party to a 4-3 victory over the Seattle Musicians on Monday at the Kingdome.
Bourque’s winner came from a crease scramble after Seattle had tied the game for the third time. The goal, an unassisted wrist shot at 18:17 of the third, gave Boston its fourth lead of the night and finally held up after a game in which the Musicians repeatedly answered.
William Gibson made 30 saves for Boston, which was outshot 33-27 but converted enough of its chances to leave Seattle with the win. Patrick Roy stopped 23 shots for the Musicians.
Lawrence Lessig gave Boston a quick start, scoring 29 seconds into the first period off a feed from Alexander Graham Bell. The point-blank chance from the left circle put the Tea Party ahead before the game had settled into a rhythm.
Seattle responded at 4:41 when Doug Harvey scored from the high slot on a wrist shot after a neutral-zone entry. Harvey, who finished with two goals, was one of Seattle’s most active players, recording seven shots, four interceptions and a blocked shot.
Boston moved back in front at 9:29 of the first when Bobby Orr’s backhand from the point deflected in. Orr had five shots and three interceptions, helping the Tea Party weather Seattle’s pressure through long stretches.
The Musicians tied it again early in the second. Kendall Coyne Schofield scored at 3:41 on an unassisted slap shot from the left circle, another deflection that made it 2-2.
Tom Brady answered less than two minutes later. Brady scored unassisted at 5:29 of the second, snapping a shot from the point after a forecheck turnover. He added two blocks and an interception as Boston took a 3-2 lead into the third.
Seattle pushed late and drew even at 15:41 of the third when Harvey scored his second of the game. Jimi Hendrix, who assisted on both Harvey goals, set up the one-timer that came during a scramble in front after a point shot.
The Musicians kept pressing, but Bourque’s late goal turned the game back to Boston. Bourque finished with five shots.
Seattle generated more volume and blocked eight shots, led by Big L’s eight shots, three blocks and four interceptions. Chris Cornell also had eight shots, two blocks and four interceptions. Hendrix had five shots and four interceptions.
Boston relied on a balanced defensive effort. The Tea Party finished with 16 interceptions, including three each from Orr, Bell and Cammi Granato. Ronnie Lott added two interceptions and a block.
Neither team took a penalty, and there were no power-play opportunities.
Attendance was 16,577.
